Q&A with Ashley Ingbretson

If you weren’t an editor, what would you be doing?
I think I would be a vet or work with wildlife in some capacity. Work days are equally as chaotic, clients are equally as needy. Most conflicts can be resolved with treats.
How do you stay motivated when the editing process feels like a grind?
I often look back at my past work that I’m really proud of and try to remember how I felt during THAT process - undoubtedly I was equally as tired, perhaps I was having some doubts about my process or having difficulties addressing notes (every project has its hurdles!) But as of yet, there has been no project that has defeated me, and some of the toughest edits are the projects I’m most proud of. And if those projects turned out great, then there’s never any reason that the next project can’t! And that keeps me going.
What’s the best thing about being an editor?
I love the fast-paced turn around of commercial editing - having something fresh to sink my teeth into every few weeks keeps life exciting!!
